About Salty

Built by the coast, for the coast.

Salty is a shared, living guide to life on the water, made by the communities who actually move through it.

Coastal knowledge has always lived with people, not platforms. Salty is our attempt to gather it into one living map that belongs to everyone.

The coast is generous, but its knowledge is scattered. Marina updates live in Facebook groups, closures and alerts are buried across agencies, and the best local wisdom never makes it online at all. Newcomers feel locked out, and even locals miss what is happening one bay over.

Salty brings that together. It is a community powered platform where travellers, boaters, paddlers, and coastal residents share real conditions, local knowledge, and the stories of the sea, so the whole coast gets easier to know and safer to enjoy.

Salty is a collaboration between socially responsible organizations that live, work, and play in the Salish Sea.

It is free for everyone, built on Tourismo infrastructure, and funded through the time, effort, and resources of our sponsor organizations. The more people share, the smarter and more useful it becomes for the next person heading out.

In a good way

On the lands and waters of the Coast Salish peoples.

Salty is built on and in relationship with the traditional territories of the many Coast Salish and neighbouring nations who have cared for the Salish Sea since time immemorial. Their knowledge, protocols, and stewardship are the foundation of coastal life here.

We are committed to sharing the coast in a way that respects those nations and the terms on which they choose to share their places and stories.

Working acknowledgement. Final wording to be developed and confirmed with the nations whose territories Salty covers.

What we stand for

Built by the coast. Not for it.

Community-first

100% powered by real people with real experience on the water, not scraped listings.

Living and evolving

Continuously updated as people move through the coast, so it is never stale.

Rooted in reality

Built by the people who are actually out there, boaters, paddlers, and neighbours.
